Close to 25,000 Left Without Electricity in Queensland and Victoria Following Severe Weather Systems

Nearly twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms impacted the region, generating wind gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Large Ice Stones and Extensive Destruction

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of seven centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across Queensland had been impacted by significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with approximately seventy teams deployed to handle the widespread outages.

Victorian Weather Woes

Simultaneously, approximately one thousand energy customers in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area experienced its wettest day in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services received nearly 600 calls for help across the region, mainly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

At the height on the previous day, in excess of twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in the state were without power.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

Tomorrow was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across different parts of both regions.

Health Warning

Medical authorities alerted that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.
